While Black Friday and Cyber Monday are hyped as the biggest shopping days of the year, it’s possible that some of the best deals of the year may actually be found in the last days before Christmas. Are you holding out for lower prices on some items?
Don’t feel like you missed the boat if you didn’t finish your Christmas shopping on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. A study by the money-saving site DealNews.com shows that prices on some items may go even lower as we get closer to December 25. Surprisingly, the lowest prices on last year’s Fabulous 15 toys from Toys R Us were found during a weekend sale two weeks before Christmas 2012.
In addition to toys, clothing items are likely to be cut in price as we get closer to Christmas Day. DealNews anticipates big holiday markdown sales the weekend before Christmas, as retailers try to clear out winter merchandise to make room for the spring clothing items arriving after the first of the year. In most parts of the country, there’s plenty of winter weather yet to come, so this is a great time to pick up those coats, sweaters and scarves you’ll need at a clearance price.
But there are cases where waiting doesn’t pay off, like the most in-demand toys and gift items. According to DealNews, the three hottest items for Holiday 2013 are the brand new PlayStation 4, the new Xbox One and the Leap Pad Explorer 2. All of these are likely to be in short supply, if not totally sold out, as Christmas gets closer.
Just in time for holiday shopping, the Neiman Marcus + Target collection hits Target stores and target.com this weekend. This fabulous collection of 50 gifts from 24 top designers offers Neiman Marcus style at a Target price. You can get a preview of all gifts today at target.com.

The year ends with an explosive blast for tech companies and gift-getters alike as the latter wasted no time in shopping for downloadable apps to load up into their new devices. The concluding weeks of the holiday and the advent of the New Year have been steadfastly progressive as Flurry was able to tally a huge count on the number of apps acquired during and after a period that they refer to as the “holiday power week”, where an estimate of 1.2 billion apps were downloaded along with 20 million iOS and Android devices that were activated during that time.
Flurry was able to base the data they gathered on the 140,000 iOS and Android apps that utilize its analytics and market products which they consider to be a reliable source of estimates pertaining to the number of apps downloaded on a daily basis, while at the same time comparing their results with both Apple and Google. They used the two weeks between December 4 and 17 for its baseline, as the week between 18 and 24 was overwhelmed by the sudden outburst on Christmas Eve.
Even though several experts deem this method to be incredible at best, it seems fairly sensible as many consumers seemed to have included the iOS and their Android counterparts on their Christmas wish lists this year and have not wasted time in putting them to good use.
Considering how many apps are being downloaded at a time; which cannot simply be achieved in a single day, the spree went on for several weeks until it surpassed the 1 billion mark between the final week of Christmas Day and the New Year where it skyrocketed by 60% as a plethora of gift smartphones and tablets were opened then activated on an almost simultaneous basis.
Although Flurry later clarifies that the downloading craze still hasn’t stopped and will be continuing for the rest of the year ahead.
