Walmart, Target and Kohl’s all did quite well over this year’s busiest shopping weekend but the big winner was Amazon with a whopping 30.9% of all sales. Lagging far behind were Best Buy with 7.4%, Target with 4.4% and Walmart with 4.1%. Rounding out the top ten were Macy’s, Kohl’s, Nordstrom, Apple, J. Crew and Home Depot.
Slice Intelligence scanned more than a million shopping receipts from Black Friday through Cyber Monday and revealed some interesting facts about how Cyber Weekend 2016 stacks up against the same period last year. Amazon’s slice of the pie actually fell a bit this year from 31.1% to 30.9% while Best Buy took a healthy jump, from 6.1% to 7.4%. Target stayed about the same while Walmart fell from 5.1% in 2015 to 4.1%.
Some retailers are getting a big chunk of their sales from online shoppers. Data from ComScore shows that Amazon, eBay, Walmart, Kohl’s and Target received the most visits from mobile devices and desktop computers on Cyber Monday, proving that people are doing a lot of their holiday shopping from work. It’s no coincidence that all five have smartphone apps that make it easy to place orders from your phone.
Where there are winners, there are also losers and this year the declining chains Sears, Kmart and JC Penney were again left out. It didn’t help that Kmart’s website was a colossal mess that made it practically impossible to find the alleged sale items. These three may be beyond saving, which is especially ironic for Sears, which got its start in the mail order catalog business.
Amazon won again by delivering thousands of deals in a way that kept shoppers coming back looking for more. Giving Amazon Prime customers early access to Lightning Deals is also a smart move. Making online shopping fast and easy is why Amazon is the runaway leader in online sales with $86.78B for the last fiscal year. Second place went to Apple which lagged far behind with $15.40B and in third place Walmart with $13.78B.

Samsung 32” LED HDTV plus $50 gift card – $147.97
This TV is already marked down by $50 but the addition of a $50 Walmart gift card puts the final price of this TV at less than $100! Plus, this is a highly-rated Samsung TV that will look great in the bedroom or kids’ rooms.
Samsung 40” 1080p LED HDTV plus $50 gift card – $247.90
Again, a Samsung TV at a super low price with a $50 Walmart gift card to sweeten the deal. This TV is big enough for the living room or game room and your final price is under $200.
Xbox One S Console + your choice of 4K Ultra HD movie + $40 Walmart gift card – $249 – $254.24
We’ve been waiting since Black Friday for Walmart to undercut the competition on this popular gaming console and now they have! The addition of a $40 Walmart gift card makes the final cost of this bundle less than $215.
Faded Glory Women’s Hooded Puffer Jacket Coat – $10
This warm and cozy coat was already one of Walmart’s top 16 sellers for Cyber Monday at $12 but now the price has been rolled back to only $10! Regularly priced at $19.96, this coat comes in six sizes and nine colors including a trendy leopard print so it’s a cold weather must at this price.
Several other top sellers are still available including the Instant Pot Lux V3 6-in-1 Multifunctional Electric Pressure Cooker Marked down to $68.95 from $89.00 and the Fisher-Price Imaginext Ultra R-Rex now selling for $69.99.
Another super Cyber Monday deal is the 4-Channel 6-Axis Gyro Headless Remote Control Quadcopter Drone with Wi-Fi camera that originally sold for $164.95, now on sale for just $59.54. Let this one hover over your home and catch those porch pirates that have been stealing your delivery packages!
Cyber Monday is far from over but Walmart has already released a list of which products are flying off its virtual shelves. Here are the 16 top sellers from the number-one retailer and the results are pretty interesting.
Some hot sellers are not at all surprising. The top four are all popular tech items at rock-bottom prices. That 60” Samsung Smart TV for under $600 is an especially sweet deal. The PS4 bundle is only $5 less than what this gaming console has been selling for all over, but again Walmart has undercut the competition.
The KitchenAid mixer may sound a bit high at $189 but this is a small appliance that normally sells for more than twice that so this qualifies as a good deal. $69 for the Instant Pot pressure cooker is also a low price for this item.
It’s not surprising that the women’s puffer coat for $12 was a huge hit since the weather’s getting cold and this topper could keep you warm all winter for a very small price.
The top toys are also not surprising since the Nerf Mastodon Blaster and the Fisher-Price T Rex are among the most popular toys of the season.
Two fitness items made the list showing that Walmart shoppers are serious about getting into shape – but probably not until the holidays are over!
