“Jingle All the Way” is one of the funniest holiday movies because it centers around a problem that parents face every year: how to get the toy your child wants most when it’s been sold out for weeks. Here are this year’s hottest toys – happy shopping!

Star Wars toys

The oddly-named Hatchimal is one of the hottest toys of the 2016 shopping season and has become an endangered species in stores but now a new batch is headed for a pair of major chains. Parents, be prepared to act fast!
The Hatchimal is a strange little interactive toy that allows the child to watch a baby bird pop out of its egg and grow from an infant to a bird-like kid. While the Hatchimal has a list price of $59.99, the scarcity of the toy has driven prices online at Amazon up to $190 – $350. Walmart has run out of stock at the low price of $48.88 but their marketplace sellers are offering it for $213.99 to $289.00.
This has made life difficult for the parents of kids who have the Hatchimal at the top of their wish list. They’ve been lining up for hours before opening at stores that have just gotten a new shipment of the coveted toy. Now Toy R Us is expecting a fresh batch for 8 a.m. Sunday, December 4, and Target is rumored to have more stock that same day.
No matter how many Hatchimals hit the shelves, they won’t last long. The outlook is bleak for this shopping season because Spin Master, the maker of the Hatchimal, underestimated the demand for the toy and was caught off guard. The company posted this statement on its website a few weeks ago:
“The consumer response to Hatchimals has been extraordinary, exceeding all expectations. Some of our first shipments have already sold out. While additional product will hit retail shelves in November, we anticipate this inventory will also sell out quickly. We have increased production and a whole new batch of Hatchimals will be ready to hatch in early 2017.”
Obviously, that’s no comfort to the parents of kids who have their hearts set on finding their very own Hatchimal under the tree three weeks from now. If you’re planning to camp out in front of a Target or Toys R Us, be sure to bundle up!
