The struggling Sears department store chain is rolling out a new and novel idea to bring more shoppers into its stores—and to its website. Sears Holdings Corp. is using its loyalty website to put together a crew of personal shoppers who will work with their friends and families to make recommendations that will steer them away from competitors and toward Sears.
Back in December, Sears Holdings Corp. announced plans to close up to 120 underperforming Sears and Kmart stores. All nine of Sears’ Great Indoors stores were added to the toll last month. Today brought more bad news as the venerable chain announced plans to close an additional 53 specialty stores by summer 2012. On the chopping block are 10 Sears hardware stores and 43 Sears hometown dealer stores.
