Microsoft Software for Smartphones

The dissensions surrounding the eminent software developer, Microsoft’s launch of windows 8 has put the company in an awkward position. The market received the operating system with an array of reactions. According to a research conducted by the company, most customers are of the opinion that the operating system’s platform is most appropriate for smartphones, especially touch screen devices.

In order to counter the discomfort in the market, the company has opted to give away its software to smart devices free of charge. Addressing a multitude of developers in San Francisco, on April 2, 2014 the chief executive officer of the software developing guru, Satya Nadella said the software will be availed to smartphones in order to expand the company’s venture into the smartphone field. He added that the move will ensure Windows phones access more applications than any other smart handsets.

This is a clear sign that the company has given in and acknowledged that its competitors Apple iOS and Android have won on the smartphone arena. Apple’s iOS devices come with the applications installed in them while Android devices provide the applications free of charge at the online android market. This has been a long catch up period that many Windows smartphone users have been looking forward to.

Nokia, which has been the major manufacturer of Windows smartphones is anticipated to experience a reduced sales volume but will continue selling its version of the operating system. The main software improvement that will come with this free operating system is a voice activated question and answer service that is more evolved compared to Google and Apple’s versions.

Like the case with other Microsoft windows operating system, the software has a ‘start’ menu at the bottom left hand section of the screen, an aspect that makes it identify with traditional desktops.
