Cyber Monday deals on iPhones are pretty hard to come by this year but Amazon has some pretty amazing prices on unlocked models of the iPhone 6S. The only caveat to these iPhones is that they’re refurbished but is that really a problem?
What does refurbished mean?
Here’s what Amazon has to say about their refurbished products: “This Certified Refurbished product is tested and certified by the manufacturer or by a third-party refurbisher to look and work like new, with limited to no signs of wear. The refurbishing process includes functionality testing, inspection, reconditioning and repackaging. The product ships with relevant accessories, a minimum 90-day warranty, and may arrive in a generic white or brown box. Accessories may be generic and not directly from the manufacturer. Only select sellers who maintain a high performance bar may offer Certified Refurbished products on Amazon.”
The deals on Amazon
A 16GB iPhone 6S in rose gold is $414.99, a discount of 22%. A 32GB iPhone 6S in Space Gray is $522.99 and a 128GB iPhone 6S in Space Gray is $524.99, a 23% discount. Yes, the 128GB model is cheaper than the 32GB version but sometimes things work that way on Amazon.
Should you hesitate to buy a refurb? No, given that it will look and operate just like a brand new model but cost considerably less. Amazon has a good record of vetting its sellers and standing behind its products so you’re not that likely to get a lemon. At least, no more likely than if you buy a new one from Apple or one of the carriers.
The best part of buying an unlocked phone is that you’re not stuck with one carrier and 24 months of payments. You can shop around and activate your new phone with one of the no-contract wireless carriers that offer more flexibility and lower monthly bills.
Given the lack of super-duper discount prices on the iPhone 6S (or any other smartphone, for that matter) this shopping season, these refurbished smartphones have to qualify as very good deals.
There’s one place you can count on NOT to offer the best Black Friday deals on iPhones, MacBooks and other Apple products: the Apple Store. Even when the tech giant promises a sales “event” the results are less than exciting, like minor discounts on accessories that are already cheaper somewhere else. Here are the best (so far, at least) Cyber Monday deals on the most popular Apple items and where to find them.
Apple Watch – Target
Target is a great place to shop for Apple goodies because they frequently toss in a free gift card. Even without one, the chain has the best price on the Apple Watch Series 1 with prices starting at $198 for the 38mm model and $228 for the 42mm version. Both are available with a variety of colors.
Apple actually has a decent deal on this popular 13.3” MacBook Pro at the full price with a $150 gift card but Best Buy beats that by offering the same model for $100 less upfront – $1,399.00.
Best Buy also has the best price on the 256GB SSD MacBook Air, $999 for a model that Apple sells for $200 more.
Again, Target is the go-to place for getting the lowest price on an iPad Pro – any of them. Prices for the 9.7” model start at $449 for the 32GB model, $549 for 128GB and $649 for 256GB. That’s $150 to $250 off list price.
Best Buy has the best price on the iPad Air 2 with $274, a discount of $125.
Again, Target is the winner with a price of $112.29, a discount of 25% off the list price of $149.99.
Alas, there are no really great deals to be found on iPhones for Cyber Monday but Target is offering a $250 gift card with purchase of an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus at the regular price. Also, Amazon is currently offering refurbished unlocked models of the 64GB iPhone 6s for $529.99 and 128GB for $679.95.
Black Friday used to be one day but over the years it has expanded to a week or more, starting before Thanksgiving and continuing through the following Monday. Cyber Monday is the busiest day of the year for online shopping as retailers compete to offer shoppers the most tempting deals. Not surprisingly, Cyber Monday is online giant Amazon’s biggest sales day of the year by far and this year’s shoppers will find more than 75,000 discounted items to choose from.
Amazon tablets and more
Also not surprisingly, Amazon will have many of its own products on sale like the Echo wireless speaker for $139.99, the Fire TV for $74.99 and the Fire TV stick with Alexa remote control for $29.99. Just about all Amazon Kindle tablets are discounted by $30 with the Voyage going for $169.99. The 7” Fire tab is just $33.33, making it an ideal stocking stuffer.
Amazon is offering a 50” 1080p LED TV for $145, a rock-bottom price for a TV this size but the brand is not named. Another Cyber Monday deal is a 50” 4K Ultra HD Smart TV for $249.99. Amazon has offered very low prices on big screen TVs in past years but quantities have been limited so they go pretty fast. Select speakers and headphones are also on sale.
Amazon will also be offering 50% off select toys by Nerf, Play Doh and Playskool. Select iRobot Roomba vacuum cleaners will be $99 off with other vacuums also discounted. Save 30% on select clothing, jewelry, watches and shoes for the entire family.
As a strictly online seller, Amazon can offer exclusive shipping deals to its Prime members, like early access to Lightning Deals and $5 off one Cyber Monday order plus an additional $5 off an order placed after December 2. Prime subscribers in 30 cities can get one-hour shipping on more than a hundred Cyber Monday deals.
Hint: The best way to score the hottest Cyber Monday deals from Amazon is to check back several times during the day to see which new items have been added.
