Amazon’s Best Deals for Cyber Monday

Cyber Monday is here! This is your last chance to take advantage of this year’s bargain madness so you’ll need to make the most of it. Amazon is always the first place to look for Cyber Monday deals so here are some of the best.

Amazon Products

Of course Amazon is going to show off its impressive line of gadgets like the Kindle tablets and new Echo connected-home devices.

Amazon Echo for $79.99 ($20 off): This is the second generation of this Alexa-enabled home device and it’s a great deal at this price, when just about all of Amazon’s own line of gadgets are on sale today at the lowest prices of the year. The Echo Plus smart hub with a free Philips Hue Bulb is also on sale, discounted $44.99 to $119.99.

Echo Dot (2nd gen) for $29.99 ($20 off): This hands-free device used Alexa to let you do a ton of stuff like play music, send messages, make calls, read audiobooks and more.  Not bad for $29.99.

Amazon Cloud Cam for $119.99 ($20 off): The key to your connected home is a camera that lets you spy on your family and find out what’s really going on when you’re not home. This cam works with Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa and lets you connect from your smartphone with the Cloud Cam App. At this price you can buy one for every room in the house.

Kindle Paperwhite for $89.99 ($30 off): This is Amazon’s Kindle for the serious reader, a dedicated e-reader that lets you indulge your passion for books anywhere, in any light. If you’d rather fool around on Facebook or watch movies on Netflix, Amazon has Fire tablets for that.

Fire HD 10 for $99.99 ($50 off): This brand new top-of-the-line Fire tab hasn’t been on sale before, and probably won’t be again in 2017. This is a super price on a 10” tablet with 1080p screen image quality and the Alexa voice assistant. This tablet can do just about anything an iPad can do for a fraction of the price.

Fire HD 8 for $49.99 ($30 off): Another cool tablet from Amazon at an unbeatable price, this one offers a convenient size at the lowest price ever.

Fire 7 with Alexa $29.99 ($20 off): if you want a small, light tab that you can toss into your bag without being afraid something will happen to it, this is the tablet for you. This holiday season you’ll see no-name Android tabs for prices higher than this, so why not get a device backed by Amazon for under $30? Even at that price, this one has the Alexa voice assistant and dual cameras.

Fire HD 8 Kids Edition for $89.99 ($40 off): Sure, you could buy one of the cheaper Fire tabs for the kids but this model is protected by a colorful case that not even a child can destroy and comes with a free year of FreeTime Unlimited. Get an extra $100 when you buy two. That should keep the little ones occupied for a while.

TVs and Streaming

LG 55” OLED Smart 4K TV for $1,496.99 ($803 off): This is a really big deal on a really high quality TV. If you want the best possible picture in your home theater and don’t mind spending some serious cash (or maxing out your plastic) this is a great deal.

Samsung 55” 4K Ultra HD Smart TV for $897.99 ($302 off): This is the lowest price you’re likely to find on a TV that has won raves from reviewers.

TCL 30” Roku Smart LED TV for $149.99 ($50 off): If you’re looking for a second TV for the bedroom or kids room, this is a quality TV at a low, low price. Roku TVs offer options for cable customers, antenna users and cord cutters alike, so they pack a lot of value into the price.

Roku Streaming Stick+ for $48 ($22 off): Roku devices are favorites with cord-cutters everywhere and this is one of the most popular. If you want to turn your old TV into a smart TV, this is a great option because Roku provides a long and growing list of channels filled with all kinds of content and many of them are free.

Bose QuietComfort 25 Noise-Cancelling Headphones for $179 ($120 off): Beats may get all the hype but Bose is an old and respected name in sound so if you’re looking for a quality set of headphones at a great price, Amazon has it for Cyber Monday.

Beats Solo3 Wireless Over-Ear Headphones for $199.99 ($100 off): This is the lowest price of the year on a set of wireless headphones that sound great and come in a variety of trendy colors. If you want to pick up a pair of these as a gift, do it now because Amazon has the best price you’re going to find.

Auto-Technica SonicPro Over-Ear Headphones for $149 ($50 off): Auto-Technica is another respected name in sound and these are pricey but worth it. Originally going for $250, these are the best headphones you’re likely to find for $149.

Auto-Technica Over-Ear Headphones for $129 ($20 off): Again, the lowest price you’re going to find for these high-quality headphones.

Skullcandy Uproar Bluetooth Wireless Headphones for $25 ($25 off): This is a rock bottom price for name brand set of wireless headphones with Bluetooth. At this price you can buy a set for all your friends who keep losing their more expensive headphones.

Puro Sound Labs Kids Headphones for $79.99 (20% off): Use the promo code PURO20 to take 20% off these headphones specially designed to protect kids’ ears.

Fitness Trackers

Fitbit Charge 2 Fitness Tracker for $99 ($50.95 off): If you’ve already decided that your resolution for 2018 to be getting back into shape, you need this Fitbit to keep track of your heart rate, daily steps and other health-related info. This one can also display notifications from your smartphone. Amazon also has the more fashionable Fitbit Alta HR for the same price.

Fitbit Blaze Smart Fitness Watch for $149 ($50.95 off): This is the lowest price you’re going to find on this combo of smartwatch and fitness tracker. Even at $149, it’s way cheaper than an Apple Watch.

Blu-ray movies for $7.96 each: Amazon has Cyber Monday deals on tons of deals on DVDs and Blu-ray discs like the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and Spider Man: Homecoming for $7.96 each, Wonder Woman for $9, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 for $9.96 and Alien: Covenant in 4K Ultra HD for $14.96.

23andMe Ancestry Test for $69 ($30 off): If you’ve seen those commercials for this DNA-based ancestry-checking service, here’s your chance to try it out at a lower price. There’s also a more complicated version that also uncovers any health problems you may have inherited, the Ancestry+Health Test for $149, a discount of $50. The results can provide holiday fun for the whole family.

Instant Pot DUO Mini for $51.99 ($18 off): These hot pots are one of the most wanted items of this holiday season and this smaller version is ideal for singles or couples who prefer to cook smaller portions. This mini-pot is easier to store and clean, too.

Online Sales Boost Black Friday

The holiday shopping season is off to a bangup start, giving retailers hope that shoppers will continue to pack the malls for the next month. Another Black Friday is behind us, and online sales contributed a big chunk of the action. How big? According to Adobe Digital Insights, which tracks sales at the 100 largest US web retailers, Black Friday 2017 shoppers spent a whopping $7.9 billion online over Thanksgiving and Black Friday. That’s a 17.9% increase over last year.

Once again, the top player was Amazon, which sold more than 200,000 toys in the first five hours of Black Friday. Sales at brick-and-mortar stores were down slightly but still healthy.

While $5 billion sounds impressive, Adobe is predicting that Cyber Monday will surpass that number with $6.6 billion in online sales.

Go online or die

In an effort to grab a larger slice of the online action, traditional retailers have beefed up their websites and offering more delivery options. At the same time, some chains have cut down on in-store inventories to avoid having excess merchandise that would have to go on sale after Christmas.

More than ever, the Thanksgiving/Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend belongs to the retailers that know how to attract and satisfy online shoppers while chains that depended too long on their brick-and-mortar stores are losing ground – and in some cases, going under.

Every month we hear about another mall staple of past decades declaring bankruptcy and closing stores while others are still clinging to life – barely. The Sears/Kmart chains are the best example of what happens when a company fails to move forward.

For the last several years, savvy retailers have been offering smartphone apps that allow shoppers to make purchases via their phones, making online buying even more convenient. That investment has paid off bigtime as commerce marketing firm Criteo reported that this year 40% of Black Friday online purchases were made using smartphones, a 29% rise from 2016.

What did shoppers buy on Black Friday?

Electronics – lots and lots of electronics. Retail analysts and consultants report that TVs, toys, laptops and gaming consoles were the biggest sellers of Black Friday 2017, with the Playstation 4 having an edge over the Xbox One S. It’s no coincidence that these were the most heaving advertised and discounted items of the year, the ones that retailers splashed across the fronts of their ad flyers.

While the traffic to brick-and-mortar stores did decline slightly, overall they had a healthy Thanksgiving/Black Friday this year. In a statement, Brian Field, senior director of advisory services for ShopperTrak, discounted the talk that online shopping will totally replace physical stores. “There has been a significant amount of debate surrounding the shifting importance of brick-and-mortar retail, and the fact that shopper visits remained intact on Black Friday illustrates that physical retail is still highly relevant and, when done right, profitable.”

While the future of some department stores remains gloomy, they seem to have done well overall on Black Friday 2017. GlobalData Retail Managing Director Neil Saunders told CNBC, “I think department stores had a reasonable time of it, better than last year.”

Kohl’s gets it

One chain proclaiming victory was Kohl’s, which in a statement said it enjoyed a “record-breaking” Thanksgiving, with major traffic both online and in stores. Kohl’s claimed that more than 16 million visits were made to its websites, with 40% of online orders being picked up in-store. While retailers that offer store pick-up as an option tout how it saves their customers time, it also saves them shipping fees and gets the online shoppers into the store where they can be tempted by more merchandise.

According to Kohl’s CEO Kevin Mansell, their Black Friday best sellers were the Apple Watch, the Fitbit and the Instant Pot with Nike and Under Armour items also moving briskly. The Instant Pot, one of the most-wanted items for holiday 2017, sold out online.

So does JCPenney

The struggling JCPenney chain, hoping to avoid the fate of its stodgy rival Sears, partnered with trendy beauty brand Sephora in hopes of attracting young, fashion-forward customers. According to a press release from the chain, upgrading its merchandise has paid off. “Hundreds – and, in some cases, thousands – of shoppers lined up outside our stores for popular items such as the Cooks air fryer, Xersion puffer jackets, diamond jewelry and smart watches, Nike athletic apparel and shoes, and toys.”

JCPenney may have also benefitted from being one of the first retailers to open its stores on Thanksgiving. That 2 pm opening could encourage shoppers to make JCPenney stores their first stop on a long shopping day – and night – while they still have energy and money.

Traffic was heavier than ever at with the top online items being furniture, refrigerators and jewelry. All in all, JCPenney seems to be taking steps to lure a hipper crowd to their brand. Will that be enough to keep the aging brand afloat in the digital age? Only time will tell.

Macy’s has style

While shoppers have no qualms about buying electronics and appliances online, there is one area where the brick-and-mortar stores shine, and that’s apparel. Most customers still prefer to try on clothing and accessories for fit and quality. That’s one area where the Macy’s chain shines, especially after gobbling up most of the competition, and they’re making the most of it.

A Macy’s spokesperson stated on Saturday that more than 16,000 shoppers were lined up outside the chain’s Herald Square store in NYC awaiting its opening on Thanksgiving. Colder than usual weather in the Northeast contributed to Macy’s bottom line on Black Friday. Macy’s had already sold 200,000 coats by 7 am and expected to sell more than a million other winter items like sweaters and fleece jackets. Sales were also strong in beauty, women’s apparel and women’s shoes.

Macy’s also benefits by having a strong online presence and offering some pretty cool deals on the most wanted items of small kitchen appliances and cookware.

Amazon rules

No one excels at online selling like Amazon, which is almost certain to have exactly what you want, may have the lowest price, and will send it to you in two days. Although Amazon stocks plenty of boring everyday necessities, that’s not what you’ll find on their front page. This online giant knows how to get your attention with the newest, trendiest, sexiest products, like their own electronics and tech items. Unlike the dying Sears chain that wasted valuable Black Friday ad flyer space on work boots, tools and appliances, Amazon grabs your attention with razzle dazzle before it amazes you with selection. They know what shoppers really want to see – toys for grownups.

This year, Amazon is getting a head start on Cyber Monday by giving users of Alexa-enabled devices the chance to begin their shopping at 5 pm Sunday. How much easier could it be to spend way too much money on Amazon? And if you don’t have an Alexa device yet, shouldn’t you pick one up to do the rest of your holiday shopping?

Cyber Monday Bigger Than Black Friday?

Black Friday 2017 was big but this year’s Cyber Monday may be even bigger as more and more potential customers are choosing to shop online. That means that retailers  will be offering more of the same along with online-only specials.

According to Adobe Analytics, Black Friday sales made on mobile devices accounted for 61% of website visits and 46% of revenue. While the news may have concentrated on rowdy crowds stampeding the big box stores, the reality is that almost half of the money those chains made came from online orders.

The advantages to shopping online are pretty obvious. You don’t have to get dressed, drive to the mall, park, wait for the store to open, search for what you need, fight other customers over the last Doorbuster Deal, drag your cart to the checkout and haul your purchases home. You don’t have to do any of that when you shop online – you don’t even have to get out of bed!

A big advantage of shopping online is the ability to compare prices on the same item very quickly. Another is being able to find which retailer has the item you need in the right size and color. You can comparison shop for big ticket items like a TV by reading reviews, descriptions and specifications so you know what you’re buying and whether you’re getting the best deal.

Add in the ease and convenience of using apps from major retailers and it’s easy to see why more shoppers are opting for going online instead of going to the mall. So are we ready for Cyber Monday?

Amazon was born ready! This online-only retailer has owned Cyber Monday for years while rivals try in vain to catch up. This year Amazon is continuing many of its Black Friday deals, including $20 off the new Echo ($79.99), $50 off the Fire HD 10 tablet ($99.99) and $30 off the Kindle Paperwhite ($89.99). These deals, along with the Fire 7 and the Echo Dot for for $29.99 each, are already online and may hang around for the weekend. Practically all of Amazon’s own Echo, Fire and Kindle devices are discounted for Cyber Monday.

Amazon is teasing a “premium brand 49” 4K smart TV” for $329.99 and a 55” 4K TV of unknown origin for $224.99. Even if you miss those two, there will be major discounts on Sony and LG 4K TVs. Also promised are “up to 60%” savings on select video games including Call of Duty: WWII, Middle Earth: Shadow of War and Injustice 2.

Amazon customers can start their Cyber Monday shopping at 5 pm on Sunday if they have a voice-powered, Alexa enabled device, giving them early access to the 30 Deals of the Day or thousands of Lightning Deals. “Alexa, find me that 55” TV for $224.99.”

Black Friday got off to a shaky start for this retail giant, as its Facebook page was flooded with complaints about both online and in-store sales. Some shoppers claimed to have logged in at 12:01 am on Thanksgiving morning only to find the advertised online specials already sold out. This does not bode well for Cyber Monday when the Walmart website will be expected to handle huge volumes of orders starting again at one minute after midnight.

For those disgruntled customers who failed to score the deals they wanted, Walmart promises to reprise many of those same sale items for Cyber Monday. Deals to watch for include a Samsung 58” 4K TV for $598, a discount of $200, $100 off Bose QuietComfort 25 noise-canceling headphones, now priced at $179,  the 500GB Xbox One S for $189, $60 off  list price and the 1TB PlayStation 4 Slim for $199, $50 off its usual price.

New for Cyber Monday will be an RCA 55” 4K Roku Smart HDR LED TV for $379, a saving of $420. If this is the same TV Walmart had on sale for Black Friday, this deal is $50 cheaper. Also less pricey on Cyber Monday is the Lenovo ideapad 320 15.6” laptop with Windows 10 for $199, a discount of $70.

No promises, but there are rumors that Walmart will have some major deals on Apple products, like a $300 gift card with purchase of the iPhone X, iPhone 8 or iPhone 8+. There were complaints about a lack of stock on Apple smartphones at some Walmart stores on Black Friday, but at least all online customers will have the same chance to score, provided they act early.

The iPhone 6 on Walmart’s Straight Talk Wireless for $129 is expected to return for Cyber Monday but this is another item that was plagued by complaints of being sold out. Hopefully, Walmart will be laying in a new supply over the weekend. Another Black Friday favorite expected to return is the Apple iPad 32GB Wi-Fi model for $249.99

If you’re looking for heavily-hyped Doorbuster Deals from Walmart on Cyber Monday, stay up late and log in by 12:01 am for the best chance at catching the most elusive items.

Target promises big deals on electronics for Cyber Monday, like $20 gift cards with your purchase of Beats X Bluetooth earphones or Beats EP wired headphones. Another good deal is a 50” Samsung 4K TV for $479.99. The best overall deal from Target is 15% off sitewide which could come in really handy if you’re buying items that aren’t on sale. Target will be continuing the Cyber Monday action through the rest of the week, with 40% off bath and bedding items on Tuesday, cosmetics on sale Wednesday, 30% off family outerwear on Thursday, electronics on sale Friday and 30% off furniture and rugs Saturday.

The Xbox One S console is selling for $189 just about everywhere but Microsoft is sweetening their deal by throwing in a free game and one-month game pass. That’s about $70 worth of extra goodies, and you can choose from 13 of the most popular titles including Assassin’s Creed and Let’s Dance.

While Apple has become notorious for ignoring Black Friday, the tech giant has been known for kicking in a few gift cards on Cyber Monday and that’s just what they’re doing this year. For Cyber Weekend, you can get a $25 gift card with your purchase of select Apple Watches, a $50 gift card with select iPhones, a $100 gift card with select iPads and a $150 card with select Macs.

Some retailers are being sneaky about their Cyber Monday deals, postponing the release of their ads until Black Friday is officially over, so we can expect more news over the weekend. Kohl’s is one major player that has promised an announcement sometime Saturday. Best Buy has revealed that they will offer free shipping on Cyber Monday but we’ll have to wait for more details.

Fortunately, you don’t need to make major plans for Cyber Monday since you don’t have to actually go anywhere!

How to Cyber Monday

Scoring the best deals on Cyber Monday requires a different skill set than braving the crowds on Black Friday. Instead of needing the stamina to stand in long lines, you need the patience to try and try again until you succeed in getting a confirmed order for the item you want. You also need the ability to jump from one website to another, checking for new deals.

Practically every retailer with a website will be having some kind of sale for Cyber Monday so if you have time, check around and see if your favorites are offering special deals. If you don’t find what you want at a price you’re willing to pay, try eBay. This site always has low prices on thousands of items.

The main thing Cyber Monday shoppers have to beware is buying too much because it’s so fast and easy!

More Hot Deals for Black Friday and Chaos at Walmart

The big day is here! For your shopping pleasure, here are more of the year’s hottest deals. But first there’s a breaking story about customers having problems with Walmart on Thanksgiving that might make you think twice before shopping there for Black Friday.

Even before Black Friday officially began, irate customers were slamming Walmart over items that were already sold out and orders that were cancelled. Some of them took their frustration to Walmart’s Facebook page, like one disgruntled shopper who asked, “What’s the point in having online black Friday if everything is either out of stock or in store purchase only?” As off 1 am ET, the complaints were still piling up on Facebook.

Others complained of having their orders cancelled due to lack of stock, orders that they thought were confirmed. Items already sold out ahead of Black Friday include a Sharp Smart LED TV, video games, Wrangler jeans, fleece jackets and PJs for kids. This makes Walmart look very bad considering how much advertising the chain has invested in Black Friday this year, especially in comparison to rival Amazon.

This situation is likely to get even worse as more stores open for Black Friday and more advertised items sell out immediately.

Apparel and Accessories

Do you want to spend your valuable Black Friday shopping time on clothing? After you’ve already snagged that smart TV and the other electronic goodies on your list, yes, because there are some great deals out there on items for the whole family. Just about all of the top retailers will be having clearance sales on fall and winter apparel and accessories to make room for the spring items coming in January, even though there’s plenty of winter left over the next few months.
